Head of the Bay 1888
Source: Frank Shaw (Burnham Collection)
Young's Landing-1888 (later Union dock) near first P.O.Office, in East Gig Harbor. George A. McDowell on float. Left, across harbor, Indian Shanties (now Austin Mill) and Potlatch house (largest building - was first school in Gig Harbor). E. S. Prentice Shingle Mill at right. Houses near center built on Burnham's plat of Gig Harbor (first land site named Gig Harbor that year, 1888). Road to immediate right of houses is now Burnham's Drive. House on waterfront at foot of Burnham probably became Burnham's store. People who lived/built these houses may have worked at Prentice Shingle Mill.
